Class of 1903

George Gore was the center fielder of Cap Anson's great Chicago teams, and later in New York for the Giants. He was the best leadoff man of his day.

John M. Ward is the most outstanding figure of the 19th century ballplayers. He began as a teenaged pitching sensation, became a top infielder after his arm gave out, was active in the player union movement and the driving force behind the Players' League, and later a top attorney. His candidacy for NL president was scuttled by his enmity with AL President Ban Johnson, or his legacy would be even larger.

Mickey Welch was a pitcher for Troy and the New York Giants with 307 career wins. Welch and Tim Keefe were the backbone of a lot of pennant-winning staffs, often no more than the two of them.

The complete list of 19 BBC Hall of Famers: Cap Anson, Dan Brouthers, Pete Browning, John Clarkson, Roger Connor, Pud Galvin, Jack Glasscock, George Gore, Paul Hines, Tim Keefe, King Kelly, Jim O'Rourke, Charley Radbourn, Al Spalding, Harry Stovey, John M. Ward, Mickey Welch, Deacon White, and George Wright.
